Host a Voices in Wartime Teacher Workshop in Your Community
Work with the Voices in Wartime Education Project staff to determine how to bring a Teacher Workshop into your area. Workshops can be designed to address both secondary and college instructors’ interest and needs. All workshops include viewing of the film, discussion and presentation of several activities that relate directly to incorporating the film into the curriculum. Four hours is the minimum amount of time to conduct a workshop, although full day sessions are highly recommended. Depending on time constraints, local poets may be incorporated into your workshop to bring participants closer to the experience they have viewed through the film. National and local teacher standards will be available for each workshop as well as sample materials.
Several teacher training evaluation workshops have been conducted to introduce the curriculum modules to teachers of social studies, history, literature, and creative writing at the middle, high school and college levels. Independent teacher evaluations (including the University of Chicago School of Education, the World Affairs Council Global Classroom, Social Studies Association of Washington, Office of International Affairs and University of Washington Model UN) have been overwhelmingly positive. If you are planning a teacher institute, contact us to see how the Voices in Wartime Education Project can work with you to design your workshop.
